It was the First Round of the Welsh Cup yesterday and the draw was earlier today normally on Monday but moved to today due to the Wales v Rep of Ireland World Cup Qualifying game at the Cardiff City Stadium.
My team for this around Pencoed Athletic faced a tough encounter at Pontyclun FC of the Welsh Football League Division Three for this derby fixture. Coming from the South Wales Alliance League the bookies would have this down as a solid home win but after 90minutes the score was level at 0-0 so the game when into extra time.
After the extra time they still could not break the dead lock and stayed 0-0 so it was down to penalties, which they won 8-7 putting their name in the hat/glass bowl for the Second Round draw today. Live on the FAW Facebook page, which I nearly missed Pencoed were given a home draw against Pontypridd Town who also when in to extra time but not penalties with a 2-1 home win over Cambrian & Clydach.
My regular look at the Cardiff based teams saddens me with five teams left going in this First Round three fell along the wayside but on a happy note that’s look at the winners that were in the glass bowl today. STM Sports continue their winning ways in the League and the Cup with a 5-2 victory over Afan Lido and face a trip to Penydarren Boys & Girls in the next round. Bridgend Street FC joined them after a home win over Machen AFC but also have to travel in the next round to play Cwmamman United.
Those out Cardiff Corinthians took a beating losing the Penydarren Boys & Girls 4-0 and I don’t think any girls were playing. Ton Pentre came out winners over another Cardiff team they beat Cardiff Drancnians with a 2-1 win and Caerau Ely lost 1-0 to Cwmbran Celtic.
