Road to Wembley - First Qualifying Round

The FA Cup early rounds just keep coming and this weekend it was the turn of the First Qualifying Round. Once again, the BBC via the iPlayer treated us to Billericay Town home against Didcot Town, which the home team won 5-0 so are in the hat for the next round.

The coverage is proper old school one camera on the centre line and offside is left to the match officials. No slow motion replays you just sit back and watch a game of football.

My team in this round is Littlehampton Town who play their football in the Southern Combination Premier Division and hoping to better their best FA Cup finish in 1990–91 season when they reached the First Round of the FA Cup. It was a Sunday home kick-off against visitors Chipstead, who are currently members of the Isthmian League South Division. Their best FA Cup performance was the Fourth qualifying round, 2008–09.

The game at Littlehampton Town ended in a draw (2-2) so a replay will be at Chipstead sometime this upcoming week. The visitors opened the scoring but the home team pulled one back before half time. After the break, the visitors soon took the lead and looked to have sown up the game but Littlehampton equalized minutes from full time.

Route to day
  • First Qualifying Round (Reply) Chipstead v Littlehampton Town Att
  • First Qualifying Round Littlehampton Town 2-2 Chipstead Att 229
  • Preliminary Round – Littlehampton Town 3-2 Eastbourne Att 177
  • Extra Preliminary Round - Little Common 1-3 Eastbourne Att - Played at The Oval, Eastbourne

There was Welsh interest in the round. Merthyr Town who won 8-1 over Willand Rovers based in Exeter, in Devon making it a long and fruitless journey. The other Welsh team were not so lucky as Colwyn Bay come out losing a seven goal game at Droylsden’s ground 4-3 so that leaves just Merthyr to take on the glory of Wales until Wrexham name goes into the draw.
