Must see TV - Week beginning 04/03/2017 - My Choice

I have had a busy couple of weeks catching up with a few box sets. I have just finished ‘The Swingers’ on Channel 4 and I was surprised how much I ended up enjoying it. It was more than about sex. Actually, there was not much sex on show with it really about the route to a murder. By the way, I would highly recommend watching. There are some popular new shows and some returning next week some will be highlighted below in my choice of the week.

Saturday - Football on 5: The Championship – Channel 5 9pm

Always a busy night of football on a Saturday for me and not just with Match of the Day but there is my date with Channel 5. My Team (Cardiff City) are a Championship team so watching Football of 5 is important for what is going on in the division.

Today Cardiff are away to London town to face QPR and hopefully return to Wales with the three points.

Sunday – Robot Wars/Top Gear – BBC 2 7pm and 8pm

This is a first for this part of my blog we have a double up two recurring TV shows I cannot split. First Dara O Briain and Angela Scanlon are back hosting the new Robot Wars and we can expect some metal mayhem! Top Gear is also back with many changes on the presenter’s front now Chris Evans as step down and Matt LeBlanc has taken over the driving seat. Fellow presenters Rory Reid and Chris Harris will be on hand to help and it will be interesting to see if the fans who deserted the Chris Evans era will return.

Monday – Mutiny – Channel 4 9pm

My kind of TV heaven the offering from Channel 4 as I am very interested in long journeys across oceans. ‘Mutiny’ is about the tyrannical Captain Bligh of HMS Bounty fame who was cast adrift in the Pacific by Fletcher Christian and a group of mutineers and the 4000 miles journey to safety.

On the replica boat they will be carrying, the same rations and battle the raging seas of the Pacific. However, the dangers will be lessen by a safety boat in the area.

Tuesday – Kate Humble: Back to the Land – BBC 2 8pm

Countryside crumpet Kate Humble as a new series looking into the decline of the countryside and its communities. The show will be looking into what people are doing to crate other avenues of revenue to keep the countryside alive and giving them new ways of making a living.

In this show, we see a farmer who invests £500,000 in Wagyu beef.

Wednesday - The Curse of Oak Island – Channel History 8pm

The show details the efforts of brothers Marty and Rick Lagina from Michigan in their attempt to solve the 220-year-old Oak Island mystery. Using modern technology and independent researchers, they seek the treasure or historical artefacts believed to be buried on Oak Island off the coast of Nova Scotia, Canada.

In this finale double bill, have they finally cracked the mystery of the Island?

Thursday – Dawn of the Dead – ITV 4 10:45pm

Shortly after a number of strange cases begin to appear at the hospital where Ana (Sarah Polley) works, a bizarre zombie "epidemic" hits the Milwaukee, Wisconsin area full force. Sarah escapes her immediate threats and meets a number of other humans who decide to seek shelter inside a large shopping mall. As they learn that the zombie outbreak is much more widespread than anyone could have imagined, their chances of survival grow increasingly dim.

I know an awful lot of genre fans rail against remakes, but like the update of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2003), this version of Dawn of the Dead is so good that we should instead be clamouring for more.

Friday – The Gadget Show – Channel 5 7pm

I love a gadget. I like to drool over new technology knowing there is little chance of owning it until it is heavily discounted when it becomes out dated. Red Dwarf actor Craig Charles will be joining the presenting team with the original presenters.

One the highlights of the show is the competition where every week well over 100 gadgets and tech is up for grabs where the staggering bundle of prizes that can be worth over an amazing £40,000.
