I remember watching the video “Don’t Speak” on Top of the Pops and wow, unnamed lead singer soon known to me as Gwen Stefani, was she hot. They had been around for a while but it was the release of their third album “Tragic Kingdom” that they had a major breakthrough in the UK.
“Just a Girl” was the first single released of the album and just failed to break into the top 30s in the UK charts the next release favoured better. The single "Spiderwebs” reached 16 on the “Official Charts Company” while “Don’t Speak” cruised to the top of the charts on its release.
I have been obsessed since the day I laid my eyes on Gwen not stalker obsessed just her new music releases and photoshoots. In the “Don’t Speak”, video and song just pulled all the right strings in my musical tastes. From the opening cords of the song and her walking around with mic in her hand I feel a stirring. She was dressed simply not like her later videos and in general, as she belted out the tune she looked angelic, so beautiful.
I noted the drummer was wearing a ‘Madness t-shirt’, which was a brownie point for this band I have never heard of before. They could have musical taste.
Then the video burst into live footage of the band in concert, my god wow if there was any doubt about this band and Gwen, they were gone, washed away by the energy of Gwen. She was and still is staggeringly beautiful.
