We had a small family gathering at the weekend and like always plenty of memories of mum and chat soon turned to food and how much we loved her cooking. She was no great cook more your basic one what you would expect back in the seventies but what she cooked was bloody great.
Dipping back into my culinary past its easy to pick a favourite! Her braising steak, peas and chips sound run of the mill but the taste she put into that braising steak gravy just the memory is making me salivate. It was one of my favourites. She made just the best braising steak in gravy, it was on a par with her Sunday dinner gravy, mum had a thing about gravy.
Ever when she cook Spaghetti Bolognese which in my book should be called Rice Bolognese I would ask for plenty of the juices from the Bolognese.
Over the years, I have tried making that braising gravy but I could never get that taste or consistency I should have paid attention to her making it growing up.

I will definitely be putting it back on the menu soon and give it another go. Maybe I will have to just forget the past and move forward. Think I will check with my butcher tomorrow to see if he sells the aforementioned braising steak has I have not notice it for sale before. It must be braising steak its a tender meat.
