With the world and its donkey in South Wales for the next few days because of the NATO meeting Cardiff looks really strange with all the fencing to keep President Obama and his chums out of Cardiff City Centre.
You can’t move around the town centre without tripping over a copper. They are everywhere, behind every bush, rooftop, as they dig and search for anything naughty. It might be a NATO meeting but it is like a reunion for the boys in blue with members of the force from all over the UK. This many foreign coppers have not been seen in South Wales since the miners’ strike.
When asked what he was looking forward to about his visit to Cardiff President Obama said, “I have heard about Chicken Curry off the Bone and I’m looking forward to having a crack at it”.
There is not just the heads of Government in town but there camp followers, the media circus. The protesters will be there to give a warm welcome in the hillside and there will be plenty of Socialist Worker banners on show. They love an anti-establishment protest the Socialist Workers. There is bound to be some cheering for NATO the Ukrainian’s for one even though there is talk of a peace agreement with the pro-Russian rebels happening before the weekend.
Hopefully the media scrum will get out and about and do stories about Cardiff and South Wales which will help promote the area.
