A little bit of politics… - Welsh Assembly - Poll

Wales will soon be gripped in a maelstrom of apathy as the country prepares for the upcoming National Assembly for Wales election. I will be voting Labour, so no surprise there but how will the rest of the country voting. It should be playing on the mind of our politicians.

Everyone who can vote should vote and if people find it too hard to wander to the voting booth use a postal vote, I do and it couldn’t be any easier. If you don’t vote, you really don’t have any right to complain.

The politicians will sharpen their point scoring abilities while digging out supporters to counter each other’s arguments. The truth could be out there but don’t expect to hear it from any politician of any colour. Labour will be blame for everything and everyone will blame the bogeyman in the room UKIP who could be the big winners of the night if you believe the polls.

The latest poll suggest the largest party in Wales, The Labour Party, will not win an overall majority and will in fact lose three seats in the National Assembly for Wales, from 30 to 27 which don’t sound great. They would be four short on an overall majority. It must be said aloud I am not a fan of the way we vote for the Assembly with the ‘Additional Member System’ I like first past the post.

With no overall-control, the horse-trading would begin the dirty side of politics where watering down of policies to make a fix happens. I would expect Labour as the biggest party to try going it alone again. Since the conception of the Assembly in 1999 there has never been one party in overall control.

As for the others if they could join together, they could form the largest party and put Labour into opposition but that will NEVER happen. Plaid Cymru would never work with the Conservatives or UKIP for that matter. Liberal Democrats will work with anyone for a piece of power but with only two seats predicted no one will want them but that won’t stop them trying.

The opening battles by the parties have begun with the election a few months away in May. Only this morning on the internet, I was reading a story about Plaid Cymru and party leader, Leanne Wood, will launch an ambitious bid to bring the Commonwealth Games and Tour de France to Wales if the party wins the election to lead the Welsh Assembly in May. They must be going after the athlete fans and bike riders votes. It is highly unlikely Wood and her party will see government any time soon.
