I have been looking forward to seeing this film since I heard about it as I go big on zombies. Normally a film like Pride and Prejudice would send a shiver down my spine and would never be a film I would go to the cinema for in a million years but add zombies and the film takes on a whole different meaning.
Yes it is a costume drama but with a twist. I still get enough heaving bosoms to keep my attention and I think I fell in love with Elizabeth Bennet played by Lily James. It turns out that Elizabeth and her four sisters are highly trained warriors raised to survive against the undead.
I will not be giving any spoilers and just to let you know don’t jump out of your seat and make for the door soon has the end credits start.
I see some professional reviewers have panned the film but I have a simple way of reviewing a film someone asks me about ‘Did it entertain me’ and this film did. Even if the wife paid £9 while I, as her carer got in free.
I have seen various Pride and Prejudice movies over the years and rarely looked for a second helping it a case of once seen soon forgotten. There was much more depth to the zombie plot than I anticipated. There is always that underlying tension that zombies will strike and the atmosphere kept a good mix of an old Pride and Prejudice feel while also adding a new element of dark zombie-apocalypse tension that I loved seeing.
Darcy and Elizabeth storyline maybe dramatic with words and weapons but watch out for Matt Smith as Parson Collins the scene-stealer. I would have liked to see more of Darcy's aunt, Lady Catherine de Bourgh (Lena Headey) famous for her abilities and the fact she lost an eye during the zombie uprising and wears an eye patch. Also it was light on zombie action but that was me I love the blood and gore.
