In the past, my sons did the Panini stickers books, it would cost me a fortune, and I don’t think anyone finished their books off, as they normally got bored. I enjoyed collecting cigarette and football cards so dating myself a bit there. I was hoping to transfer my enjoyment of collecting to my own kids but that didn’t work out with much success.
When Panini brought out a sticker book for Wales’s upcoming Euro final appearance, my childhood juices began to stir and I felt the urge to collect. So I bought the start pack and happily started to full my book. Soon I had a little pile of doubles and as the time rolled by the pile got bigger and bigger I actually have more doubles, triples than I can deal with.
To reduce them I pop some in a bag and tape them to the odd lamppost for some lucky kid to find them has I have no one to swap my spares, as I can’t be bothered posting them around with like minded adults. Growing up as a kid I had the schoolyard to do some trading or in the street. For some reason I don’t think I would be welcome at the school gate to do some trading.
This morning I bought three packets of stickers giving me 15 individual stickers and they all ended up in the spares pile and yesterday out of another three packets only one ended up in my sticker book. That is £3 in two days, one wanted sticker for £3, and I am beginning to remember why I hate collecting when I have no control over the product. I said at the beginning that I would finish my book without the use the Panini form to complete my book but I am getting to the point where it could be the only way.
