It’s award season for film and TV meaning its time for the TV Ufarties’ the Third annual Peter Ugarte Couch Potato TV Awards. I say the Third but that’s not quite right has last year they were cancelled after I deleted my stored copy after some computer issues and I wasn’t going to rewrite it all over again.
The awards were yesterday at Dugdale Towers with the red carpet out but there was a definite luck of celebrities, in fact none. Not even the Z-listers from Towie and other such miner celebrities were nowhere to be seen and they turn up for the opening of a shed as a rule.
Not even a free goodie bag was enough to have them coming out of the woodwork. There is no special goodie bag for the A-listers and the bottom dwellers everyone gets the same. There is no panel of judges; the Ufarties’ are not a democracy I like what I like. This year I have added the Fellowship of the Ufarties’.
This first fellowship is not awarded to a person but a TV series and a comedy masterpiece from the BBC. Whatever Happened to the Likely Lads? A comedy sitcom from the early seventies and the sequel to the mid-1960s hit The Likely Lads. This is most probably the best comedy sequel of all time in the British comedy field; it certainly tops the original, which was one of the runaway classics of the sixties.
The acting is superb, Rodney Bewes never better as the middle-class, socially upward aspirant Bob, James Bolam in the only role in which I can watch him, as the down-at-heel feckless Terry and Brigit Forsyth a perfect foil for both as Bob's hoity-toity wife who comes between them.
I spend a lot of time watching the goggle box and I am always ready to give an opinion on what I like and don’t so here are my best shows/programmes of the year.
