President Under Siege [AKA De Premier] 2016 – Film Review

I was just about to go to bed the other night and caught a bit of a film that looked really interesting there was a woman getting the hell kicked out of her in a bathroom/toilet so I when to bed after plus 1ing the film for viewing at another time. This was the afternoon to watch it because I just didn’t fancy watching Zulu again.

Wifey was in bed and the house was nice and quiet. So but for the film title “President Under Siege”, I knew nothing about the film, oh yes it subtitled later I found out it is a mix of Dutch and English.

This is not a political film. By no means. It's a thriller, and I thought a very exciting one I liked the premise of the film. Right from the start, director Van Looy gets the story going. And he doesn't release his grip on the audience until the very end. The story moves ahead as powerful as a cannon ball and as straightforward as a freight train.

The film is about the Belgian Prime Minister, who is forced to kill the American president and it’s no Donald Trump but a woman President. The reason is clear: he is the only one with direct access to the president. The killing is supposed to take place during a private encounter, without any bodyguards around. In order to make him pull the trigger, the villains kidnapped his wife and two young children, threatening to kill them if he doesn't obey.

During the course of a day, the prime minister and his female assistant try everything they can do to outsmart the villains, but to no avail. The Prime Minister has to face the impossible dilemma of either choosing to uphold his public duty and whack the President or to save his wife and children. The question who will be killed in the end, keeps the audience on the edge of their seats.

It got me thinking at the end which leader in a private meeting would pull a gun on another. I concluded old Trumpy would and just about on any other leader. This is someone who plays ‘I got the biggest nuclear button’. Remember the Frankie goes to Hollywood song “Two Tribes go to War” maybe two leaders slug it out in the ring MMA style. Back to the film and if you have the chance to watch it I would recommend it.
