CARDIFF CITY have eight straight wins under their belts and I think they could make it nine tomorrow at Sheffield United has I believe in our manager Neil Warnock. He as a strong affection for Sheffield United as a long-time fan and as managed them himself one of many clubs. The Bluebirds are still in a strong position in the league table entrenched in second place still seven points ahead of third place and for me the dreaded play-off places.
Fulham now occupy third place in the league after Aston Villa dropped points with a 0-0 draw at Hull City and are now nine points behind Cardiff with the Welshman having a game in hand over both Fulham, Aston Villa who are trying to catch them and over leaders Wolves who visit Cardiff City next Friday.
Interestingly back in August while checking Cardiff’s home fixture against Sheffield United there was somewhat of a coincidence first we beat them 2-0 with goals from Morrison and Mendez-Laing. However, before the Sheffield game, we travelled to Wolves were Cardiff run out 2-1 winners and after the Sheffield game there was a 3-0 win over Aston Villa. Oh for the same results over our next three games.
With Sheffield United just two points outside of the playoffs, it will be a huge game for both teams tomorrow but Sheffield United have only won one game in the last five games maybe a bit of an advantage heading our way. Sheffield United will be without first choice goalkeeper Jamal Blackman as he begins a three-match suspension following a red card.
A win tomorrow will see Cardiff edge closer to Wolves and increase the gap on Fulham and both play Tuesday night. The Game is live on Sky Sports and well under a thousand fans are expected to travel to the game but its pay at the gate so that figure could improve. Fulham play Leeds United at home while leaders Wolves also have a home fixture against Hull City.
There is lots of talk about Fulham and that they could catch and pass Cardiff for the second automatic promotion who at present are seven points behind the Welshmen. They are on an extraordinary unbeaten league run of seventeen games drawing only four games still Cardiff are in the driving seat and one thing you can bank on Cardiff boss Neil Warnock will push his team all the way.
On the team front, Aron Gunnarsson returned to the Cardiff team against Burton and was given a 20-minute plus run out suffering no ill effects so could he be in contention for a start at Sheffield or will he be on the bench. Jamie Ward (on loan from Nottingham Forest) another returnee from injury was on the bench (unused) in the Burton game.
Out of contention for the game are Joe Ralls (hamstring) and Jazz Richards (ankle) both still out injured the big question is will they get match fit before the end of the season. With no reported injuries reported after the Burton game things are looking good for boss Warnock.
