We have played a few good teams in pre-season with the likes of Watford and Bournemouth standing out both Premier League teams and two victories for the Bluebirds. Now it is the reality of a season long campaign kicking off next weekend, excited, well I bloody am.
The opening fixtures will be a good test for Cardiff City manager Russell Slade with a home kick-off next Saturday against Fulham followed but two tough away games at QPR and Blackburn. There has been a lot of comment between fans about have we strengthened enough after last season having seen a lot of the squad depart with a few more to go. The only players to have arrived at the club are Semi Ajayi and Sammy Ameobi but the rumour mill is still rumbling on with a few more possibilities.
You don’t win games without scoring goals – and it looks like Slade will look to Joe Mason and he didn’t bring Ameobi to the Cardiff City Stadium on a season loan to sit on the bench. While there is reported interest in Kenwyne Jones the Cardiff manager is on record as saying, he is a 'big part' in his plans.
The biggest weakness for next season could well come off the field – the fans. Last season was pretty woeful although it did pick up some towards the end of the season. There was a lot of negativity on the terraces about the manager or the style of play to the boardroom. Good performances, even if we lose should be supported take the negativity to the pub or home. Total support of our team is essential along with getting the atmosphere back into the stadium and the player’s job is to light the terraces up has their part in creating the noise.
Expectations for this season are simple and like most fans play-offs and above but thinking of my blood pressure automatic promotion would be ideal.
Who will win the Championship? Favourites must be one of the relegated teams from the Premier League or there could be another dark horse like Bournemouth last season. This league (the championship) is no pushover in some ways it is more competitive than the Premiership leading to interesting times.
