Cardiff away to Derby tomorrow another busy weekend

WHAT a Tuesday night for Cardiff City with the top three at the top of the league table all having important games. Leaders Wolves won their game so did Cardiff meaning there’s still three points separating the two but third place Aston Villa slipped up losing at home and are now seven points behind the Welshman with nine games left to the season.

Cardiff have a Sunday kick-off and have a trip to Derby televised on Sky again with a mid-day kick off. Cardiff go into the game having not lost in seven (wins) the last time that happened was back in 1993. Eight tomorrow! Let’s hope so.

No pressure but the last time Cardiff won seven games in a row was in 1992/93 that was the season we went on to win promotion as champions. Actually, it was a run of eight games back then could they match it tomorrow? It didn’t end there because after drawing the ninth game Cardiff when on to win four more games.

Cardiff City travel to Pride Park on Sunday afternoon with a large away following and are hoping to improve their chances of automatic promotion with their eighth win in a row. Going into today’s game the Bluebirds sit three points behind leaders Wolves and are ahead of nearest chasers Aston Villa by seven points but that can all change by later today.

Wolves v Burton Albion
Aston Villa v Bolton

Both Wolves and Aston Villa’s opponents are in relegation trouble and are in dire need of points like them so there is plenty to play for as the season comes to a close. Cardiff need Burton and Bolton to step up to the plate and get something out of the game, which could be beneficial, if Cardiff were to win at Derby tomorrow.

Cardiff's Aron Gunnarsson is close to a return from an ankle injury, while Joe Ralls is still making progress after a knee injury suffered in training. But Bluebirds boss Neil Warnock could be tempted to name an unchanged side.

While Cardiff have had their injury problems Derby are in the mother of all major injury concerns with only 10 players training on Friday. With Joe Ledley and George Thorne aout, and Cameron Jerome, David Nugent, Tom Lawrence, Richard Keogh, Marcus Olsson, Ikechi Anya and Matej Vydra are doubts. While Tom Huddleston is banned.

Cardiff have nine games lift going into today’s game
March 18th Derby (away) selected for Sky Sports coverage
March 30th Burton Albion (home)
April 2nd Sheffield United (away) selected for Sky Sports coverage
April 6th Wolves (home) selected for Sky Sports coverage
April 10th Aston Villa (away) selected for Sky Sports coverage
April 14th Norwich (away)
April 21st Nottingham Forest (home) selected for Sky Sports coverage note kick-off Saturday 7:45pm
April 28th Hull City (away)
May 6th Reading (home)
Another game has been added to Sky Sports with Cardiff’s game against Nottingham Forest added this week with a late late kick-off at 7:45 Saturday night. That must be a first for Cardiff on a Saturday night and I can’t see fans home or away been happy with that kick-off time.
