Some shocking things happen to football fans but I have heard it all now with Russian police refusing to allow female football fans into a stadium unless they stripped completely naked.
The ground in question is in Kazan, a host city for the World Cup, 2018 in Russia. Police in the city refused to apologise for their actions sighting security measures for the reason. Female fans were made to strip naked not the normal pat down fans can expect. It is not clear from the reports if the police forced male fans to undergo the same treatment.
Spartak Moscow fan Ekaterina Stepanova denounced the searches after she was told to strip, including her underwear she explained on her blog. The former beauty queen Stepanova named Miss Spartak in 2013 did not strip but felt humiliated for even being asked. After protesting, a more respectable search was undertaken. However, at the next security point, another police officer refused her entry to the terraces for not being searched properly. After about an hour and a half she was allowed into the stadium.
The attitude of the local police have implication for FIFA, Kazan is a World Cup 2018 host city. Will visiting female fans have to the same treatment a naked full body search? In fact, no Russian female supporter should undergo this kind of indignity or a male fan. What if they were to draw a top British or European club in the Champions League or the Europa League there would be up roar if their female fans were treated in the same way.
The President of the Republic of Tararstan, Rustam Minnikhanov, warning that fans can expect similar treatment in the future.
"The police actions in this situation were due by the provocative and inappropriate behaviour of Moscow side fans during their previous visits to Kazan".
