Jersey Team Entering the English Football Pyramid

Reading an interesting article in the Non-League Paper this morning about another Channel Island club looking to join the English League System this time a team from Jersey, the Jersey Bulls. I love all this kind of news/stories especially talk of new clubs or stories like Salford City. I still keep an eye on the other team from the Channel Island Guernsey FC.

I have written before about Rugby League where a team from Canada, Toronto Wolfpack who just missed out on promotion to the Super League last season are playing in England and Canada. I wonder if that could happen in football one day.

It will not be cheap for Jersey Bulls as they like Guernsey will have to pay the travel and accommodation costs for hotels of all opposing teams visiting the Island, as I said not a cheap exercise plus their own expenses. Guernsey’s travel bill for 2017/18, which included opposition travel and accommodation, exceeded £125,000.

In preparation to play in the English pyramid they have appointed their first manager, Gay Freeman, who currently managers St Peter in the Jersey Combination Premier League. The Combined Counties have welcome the Jersey club and will play in CC League Division One from next season. Subject to a few minor improvements, their Springfield stadium complies with league standards where the capacity of the ground is a reported 7,000 including a 992-seated grandstand.

Bulls are poised to begin life two divisions below Guernsey FC who are in there eighth season in the English system, and one-step above them adding to the rivalry between the two Islands. Jersey is the largest of the Channel Island and there is a big enough interest in football to support the club.
