It is confirmed Jesus is pushing up the daisies, which I consider was a mistake. People harp on about the comic story line but I have never seen one but I think Jesus was a natural leader post Rick but we learnt more about who killed him, which has left me scratching my head.
The continuing story of Negan continues remember at the end of the mid-season break he was outside is cell with that evil smile on his face. Well shovel in hand he wanders over to Judith bedroom, surely not. Well Rick’s kid is not in bed and later we see Negan about to escape, who is there to stop him, Judith. After promising he wouldn't hurt anyone, Judith relents and drops her over sized gun for such a little girl and he climbs over the fence.
Meanwhile Michonne and Daryl were on the way back to Hilltop with the body of Jesus for burial and wondering who their new villainous group were, the Whisperers. The big reveal … They are not dead Daryl captures one after an ambush who quickly drops to her knees with a hands up so they take her to Hilltop to find out who she and her group are.
After a bit of an interrogation we find out the walker’s facemask they wear helps them hide from the walking dead even from within a herd and that they have been watching Hilltop and the other settlements maybe but can she be trusted? She thanked young Henry locked up for getting drunk and being stupid for his help for intervening and revealed that her name was Lydia as Daryl spied on their conversation.
Negan, used his newfound freedom to... well, go wandering and as a few narrow escapes. He headed back to the Sanctuary and discovered that several of his lieutenants are now zombies. It's true you can't go home again. After seeing, what the world looks like without him, Negan decides to return to Alexandria his prison cell looks better than being alone, outside.
As promised, Judith was waiting and she fires a gun in his direction as he rode a motorcycle back to town. Judith tells Negan that she warned him there was nothing out there for him and he finally agrees. While following a trail of arrows Alden and new guy Luke are happily chatting about music before being caught in a Whisperer ambush.
The Walking Dead is still facing challenges as it ages and the ratings continue to slip. There's the creeping feeling that it hasn't yet done enough to win back a lot of viewers, and the whole tension-between-the-communities angle has apparently taken a backseat for now without much in the way of real resolution.
