Like most football fans yesterday it was a waiting game with the closing of the summer transfer market and you have to have a finger or two crossed that your club gets some good business done.
From the moment I woke up my laptop was on waiting for some breaking news. I was using the News Now news platform for information. News was that my team Cardiff City were looking to sign three players with Norwich striker Kyle Lafferty strongly linked. However, as the day progressed other teams were linked with him until 9:45 news broke that he was staying at Norwich.
Cardiff really need a striker someone who can score goals and with the Lafferty deal going nowhere, a new name entered the ring, West Brom striker Rickie Lambert. While waiting on some news on signings two City strikers were going through the door out on loan, Adam Le Fondre to Wigan and Rhys Healey down the road to Newport County.
Still waiting on news on Lambert and then while chatting on Facebook I was told the deal was done hours ago. I felt a bit stupid but then the internet lit up with news of the deal. I didn’t care much when he signed as long as he can score goals and plenty of them. That will put a lot of pressure on the strikers head and his arrival will wake up the lacklustre Cardiff forwards.
The rumour was the Cardiff boss Paul Trollope was in the market for three new players. Joe Bennett (Aston Villa) defender was brought in before transfer deadline day just leaving a third keeper and replacement for the departed David Marshall who joined Hull City undisclosed fee but reported to be somewhere between £5m/£2.5m. The loan ‘emergency’ window opens in a week or so and I expect Trollope to be a player at least for the third keeper.
