The TV schedule this week is loaded with new stuff lots of which I want to see and squeezing them all in will be the problem. Highlight for me last week was the final instalment of Class of '92: Out Of Their League.
In general, I like sports documentaries and I enjoyed this one in particular because I have a fascination with non-league football. This programme follows the goings on at semi-professional football side Salford City FC, half owned by five famous ex-footballers from Manchester United dubbed the 'Class of '92'.
The cameras followed them last season from the boardroom to the dressing room, most of what is in between, and to top it off they win promotion and are a step closer to their goal, the Football League.
Saturday BBC1 – Strictly Come Dancing: The Launch 6:50pm
Yes, I am a 50 plus man who loves strictly, can’t dance, and won’t dance who has a teenager would watch ‘Come Dancing’ and I am looking forward to Launch Night. First I must say, hand on heart I will miss the beautiful Ola Jordan she was proper eye candy.
Checking the runners and riders, it is the usual suspects and you kind of no the oldies will not get anywhere near the finals I am backing model Daisy Love, which is very typical for me. We will be finding out which celebrity is paired with which dancer who themselves dread finding they are paired with a lead weight.
Sunday Channel4 – Sunday Brunch 9am
When the BBC programme ‘Something for the Weekend’ was cancelled, Channel 4 picked up the format along with presenters Tim Lovejoy and Simon Rimmer. It became Sunday Brunch a three-hour live cookery show with interviews with celebrity guests.
Some of this week’s guests are Jason Byrne, Ray Mears, and Matthew Fort there are also other guests, specialist on some subject or another and guests cooks. It is an enjoyable watch for a quiet Sunday morning.
Monday Sky Cinema Premiere – Pod (2015) 6:30pm
I have not seen a good horror movie for a while and I am hoping this will get me jumping out of my chair. This film as a lot riding on it to entertain me.
Two siblings who stage an intervention for their unstable brother. As the situation spirals out of control, they begin to wonder if what they had dismissed as their brother's paranoid delusions may be true. The brother a veteran claims to be the victim of a mysterious government conspiracy. This low budget film was well received.
Tuesday Discovery Channel – Curse of the Frozen Gold 10pm
Allegedly worth billions, 'Slumach's Gold' has enticed prospectors for over a century, and now a team of experienced gold hunters takes up the hunt - and the curse that goes with it.
They're an odd mix - young and fit mountain climbers, a gold-obsessed prospector, a local outdoorsman, and some savvy, but sceptical old-timers. They only have three months to explore the vast and rugged wilderness of Pitt Lake before winter weather sets in.
Wednesday Channel4 – Paralympics 2016: Opening Ceremony 9pm
It only seems like yesterday we were at the Rio Olympics and now we are back for the Paralympics. Outside the sports there has been plenty of negativity around the build up to the games and mainly the finances. Ticket sales leading up to the Opening Ceremony have been more than disappointing.
I am sure the British squad will keep the home fires burning and bring home a record tally of medals.
Thursday BBC1 – Question Time 9pm
With those hard working (joke) politicians back off their mega long, summer holidays Question Time is back with a special. Jeremy Corbyn and Owen Smith, the two candidates to lead the Labour Party will be taking questions from an audience in Oldham.
They won’t be in for an easy time we just have to hope the BBC does its job and makes the audience fair and not loaded with Corbynistas. What a pity for me though neither of these men would be my choice to lead the party.
Friday Channel4 – The Last Leg: Live from Rio
Broadcast daily at the end of the day's Paralympics coverage at the London games on Channel 4 the show became popular and after the Paralympics became part of Channel 4 Friday night schedule.
It’s back for Rio and will give a comic review of the day’s events at the Paralympics with studio guests, reports, and much more as they follow British hopes in the games.
