So what did you make of this year’s Christmas TV adverts! I liked most of them it’s a part of our Christmas now to love them or hate them however, I like the run up to Christmas as it can be so fun, with the festivities starting to appear in different places.
Shopping this morning at my local Tesco, the staff were in Christmas jumpers and turned on the Christmas music and I could feel the Christmas vibe. I have yet to go into town and check the high street fully lit up and Christmassy that’s something to look forward to.
Christmas is definitely “the most wonderful time of the year” for me and i get so excited when we start to notice these things more and more throughout November and December! One of the ways we know that Christmas is on its way is when supermarkets and stores start to air their Christmas TV adverts! There is always a lot of hype and anticipation for these.
It’s all a matter of opinion of course, and there have been agreements in this household and disagreements on the subject of the current festive TV ads. Here I go again looking at a few of them and giving you my opinions.
The most highly anticipated advert of the festive season, John Lewis did not disappoint but found themselves in a bit of thingamajigs over a copyright issue. Over the years we have followed tales from The Bear and The Hare, a favourite of mine and Man on the Moon, Monty the Penguin, amongst many others, and of course last year’s comical creation Buster the Boxer!
For 2017, John Lewis have brought us Moz the Monster! He’s the cute fuzzy creature from under the bed that becomes friends with the child and keeps him up all night playing games and having fun, until realising he needs to let the boy get some sleep and sends a gift of a night light to help him do so! A heart-warming advert I’m sure you’ll agree, reading into the old ‘monster under the bed’ myth. Didn't we all have a monster under our beds as a kid I know I did but here was not a big as Moz or has fun.
Marks & Spencer have thrown up a classic featuring a friendly, familiar character that adults and children can respond to with Paddington the Bear. They give us another light hearted, comedy storyline is brought to us this festive season as Paddington catches a robber in his tracks and proceeds to undo all of the thief’s wrong-doings. Paddington mistakes him for Santa Claus and begins to ‘help’ him deliver his gifts to the neighbourhood!
There has to be one piece of crap that ruins the whole Christmas feeling and that must go to Peacocks Christmas TV advert full of Z list celebrities all of whom I hate. The only redeeming feature is that it is pretty short. But out there somewhere people will support this piece of crap because some newspaper did a poll and it came out top of the pile. According to 31 per cent of respondents to the poll, the honour when to clothing retailer Peacocks.
The ad features a bevy of X-Factor ‘stars’ including so-called rapper Honey G and the endlessly annoying duo Jedward, there I will end it. What do you thing hit the comment button and let me know.
