I'm Gonna Spend My Christmas with a Dalek (1964) [Single] - Race 2018 No1

Rarely do I come across a song especially a Christmas one I have never heard about before and with connections to one of my favourite TV shows. For the benefit of anyone who has never heard of a Dalek, they are from the long running Science Fiction series Doctor Who from the BBC and are an extra-terrestrial race of mutants.

Daleks resemble human-sized salt and peppershakers with a single mechanical eyestalk mounted on a rotating dome, a gun mount containing a death ray and a telescopic manipulator arm, which resembles a sink plunger. They were famed for not able to climb a flight of stairs, any stairs but in a more modern version of the show, they could fly.

Anyway, Daleks are supposed to be scary! “The Go Go's” (no not the 1980's all girl US band, this is the original UK outfit!) produced this supposedly hilarious effort, sung by someone with a fake lisp and featuring a Dalek speaking, but failing to utter their immortal line "EXTERMINATE" at any point in the song . Yes, I am going to say it, this record should have been exterminated at release!
Yes it was a pretty naff song but surprisingly catchy but I don’t think it charted and if it did, failed to reach the top 50 singles.

2018 Christmas No 1 Race

The 2018 Christmas number one song isn’t due to be revealed until Friday 21 December. But that hasn’t stopped early speculation from being rife – and a number of contenders are already being tipped for the UK chart top spot. Debating who will be crowned No 1 is nothing like the seventies, eighties, nineties for excitement in fact does anyone care anymore.

Here are the crop considered to be in the running for Christmas 2018 – together with the current betting odds for each.

Ariana Grande - Current Odds: 5/2
Elton John - Current Odds: 8/1
Lady Gaga – Current Odds 8/1
Little Mix – Current Odds 10/1
Ed Sheeran – Current Odds 12/1

The bookies may have their ideas on who will be the Christmas No 1 but from a few public votes, Elton John could be celebrating his first festive No 1.
