Welsh Cup Final 2017/18

I have left my regular updates slip but its final day today with Aberystwyth Town and Connah’s Quay Nomads travelling to Latham Park, Newtown for the 131st Welsh Cup Final.

The Nomads are contesting only their second-ever JD Welsh Cup Final, and their first since 1998, when they came up short against Bangor City, losing on penalties at The Racecourse. Aberystwyth featured in the final as recently as 2014, where they were also agonisingly close to victory, losing 3-2 against The New Saints.

My journey may have ended on Connah’s Quay but I really wanted Aberystwyth to win, as it would have given Cardiff Met a chance to reach European football and bring it back to Cardiff. But it was not to be Aber lost 4-1 to the North Walians it was a bit of a one sided game but after the goalless draw at Cardiff, it was nice to see some goals. Something at I find annoying is the lack of attendance figures and its about time the FAW sorted it out.

The Nomads lifted the Welsh Cup for the first time in their history after victory over Aberystwyth Town. A result that ensures automatic European qualification for Bala Town.

This route started with Grange Allstars a local Cardiff team back in August who enter the competition for the first time and a team I had never heard of before. I found out they play in the Premier Division of the Cardiff Combination Football League so I have kept an eye on them through social media where they are not having the best of time this season. The play their games between the Marl and Pontcanna.

I am looking forward to next season and fingers crossed for Cardiff Met.
