Sevenside Derby - Bristol City v Cardiff City

The Sevenside Derby tomorrow as Cardiff City cross one of the Seven Bridges for the short trip to Bristol to face Bristol City for this mid-day clash. Cardiff moved back into second in the league after a solid 3-1 win over Ipswich midweek at the Cardiff City Stadium after that disappointing 0-0 draw last weekend.

That was 4 points collected from the two home fixtures all six would have seen us top of the league going into this game.

There is plenty of history between the two clubs and the fans do not like each other much adding an extra level to these games and the atmosphere. I always seen Bristol City as our main rivals not them down the road to the west (Swansea) they were a late addition. The kick-off time (midday) is more to do with the police than the clubs with their been no restrictions on the Cardiff fans traveling to the game, nearly 3,000 of them but the police want to limit the drinking time for the fans going to the game.

Being so close Bristol City was always going to be my possible first ever-away game but it wasn’t. That accolade when to the other Bristol club, Rovers in a League Cup 4-4 thriller.

Championship top six
Cardiff will want the three points to solidate their position in the league table but Bristol are only four points and two places behind the Bluebirds in fourth place. On current form over the last five games the home team just edges it and most bookies are going along that line while I am kind of thinking a draw but that could change as kick off gets closer.

Kenneth Zohore and midfielder Arron Gunnarsson will have fitness tests ahead of the visit to Ashton Gate but Cardiff manager Neil Warnock will not risk them unless both are match fit. Former Bristol City player Lee Tomlin could make his first return to Ashton Gate for the first time since his summer move to Cardiff after his sentencing yesterday for a nightclub brawl, which left a man with a broken jaw. Tomlin received 80 hours' community service.

Lee Peltier says Cardiff City must stamp their authority on Saturday’s Sevenside Derby with Bristol City if they want to take all three points and I couldn’t agree more.
