Iron Sky (2012) - Film Review - Nazi Exploitation film

I am a sucker for Nazi exploitation films some of the plots are way out crazy at is why I loved them. Nazis at the Centre of the Earth (2012) where Adolf Hitler after the Second World War hid out in the South Pole planning his revenge and he was now a robot. Last night on the Horror Channel, I watched “Iron Sky” (2012) this time the Nazi’s were hidden out on the Dark side of the Moon.

Most films in this genre are mostly of a sexual nature woman being tortured in experiment camps or used for sex like in “SS Girls” (1977) I suppose one of the most famous “Lisa: She Wolf Of The SS” (1975) which went on the become a popular comic book.

So how did I find “Iron Sky”, pretty insane! Yes, it does seem a bit pro-Nazi, but when you watch the film, it really isn't if anything, it does the greatest job at making fun of Nazis. I've never had a more hysterical and enjoyable ride. The script is absolutely cheesy, the visual effects are astonishing, and the action is non-stop with the Moon Nazis pouring down to earth in their spaceships including zeppelins.

Renate Richter
The film starts like an old B movie with a complicated sub plot, when the earthlings make the first landing on the Dark side of the Moon we see the landing craft covered in posters for the re-election of the President of the United States. The Nazi’s kill one of the two astronauts the other being a black American and they were astonished seeing a black man and the crazy Nazi scientist treats his blackness as a disease and cures it by turning him white! Just think of the uproar if it was the other way around. I thought it was hilarious. Stephanie Paul plays the President who loves the idea of a war to help her win another term in office with the help of her sidekick Vivian Wagner, Peta Sergeant who as an impressive cleavage to admire, I notice these things.

Vivian and Adler
Impressed with the technology he was carrying, a mobile phone, they head to earth in search of better computers. Two Nazi officers, ruthless Klaus Adler (Götz Otto) and idealistic Renate Richter (Julia Dietze), with former black guy James Washington (Christopher Kirby) in tow who they soon dump after gaining access to the President. Adler and Renate re-energize the President's re-election campaign using Nazi-style rhetoric. After three months on earth, Kortzfleisch (Fuhrer) lands on Earth and confronts Adler, but is killed by Adler and Vivian. Adler declares himself the new Fuhrer before returning to orbit in Kortzfleisch's flying saucer, deserting Vivian, but taking her tablet computer. Has he leaves to return to the Moon the attack on earth begins.

The President is happy to announce to the assembled United Nations the spacecraft USS George W. Bush, which carries nuclear and directed-energy weapons, only to discover that all the other nations (except Finland) have secretly armed their spacecraft’s. In command of the USS George W. Bush is Vivian hell-bent on killing Adler and the Nazi’s but more Adler who spurned her many advances he must have been gay.

There isn't much to say about the film besides the fact that it's a strange yet entertaining and you're sure to not forget it because, even though some people will hate it and others will like it, the story is just so random you can't not remember it.

Definitely one to check out for yourself, but just a heads-up for everyone; there's NOTHING realistic about the film. That's another reason why it's really fun. I am really looking forward to the long-awaited sequel and I just hope not to be disappointed also, Margaret Thatcher is in the film.
