My TV - Olympics - Jade and Porn - Week beginning 6/08/2016

This week’s TV choice is easy with little competition but more of that later first the highlight of last week. I am not sure you can call it a highlight but it was a thoughtful and interesting look into a young woman’s choice of a career in porn. It was on BBC3 online… Jade: Why I Chose Porn.

It was about a twenty-two year-old graduate named Jade with a degree in Fashion from Manchester Metropolitan University. While working towards her degree and short of money, she dipped her toe into porn by selling clips online but on leaving, she was faced with an internship in fashion with little or no pay so made the decision to follow a career in porn.

Under the name Carly Rae Summers, she embarked on her new full-time career and was followed by a reporter and showed the reality of a life in porn. On a trip to Prague, the male talent (what male porn stars are called) was having trouble with his plumbing. So a few hours work would see her pocket £600 but it turned into 14 hours of wasted time and she worked out with travel she earnt round £10 an hour. In the end I kind of like Jade, I just hope she can live with the job.

At Dugdale Towers, it will be wall to wall Rio Olympics on my TV and I could not be happier although can’t see the wife feeling the same. There is also the Paralympics to factor in which is now getting better TV coverage thanks to Channel 4. I can remember the time when you were lucky to see half hour/hour of highlights a day and even before when there was nothing on the TV.

I will be cheering along Team GB but I will also be looking forward to sports that fly under the radar of television because they are not sexy enough like Trampolining. One of my favourites is Modern Pentathlon where you have five sports taking place on the same day: fencing, swimming, horse riding, shooting, and running – the toughest of events.

I love all the Cycling but the Mountain Biking is really cool and rowing/sailing/canoeing has well in this sporting fest. The athletics, running, jumping and throwing is the core of the events but we have to wait until next Friday for them to start. But until that happens there is plenty to view.

The big problem is the difference in time zones. Most of the live stuff will be played out early morning while I am asleep so there will be a lot of catch-up with highlights or the iPlayer. Team UK have been set a target of 48 medals down on London but this is an away fixture.

This may be the 2016 Olympics but eyes are already on Tokyo 2020 with five new sports included baseball/softball, karate, sport climbing, surfing, and skateboarding. Yes skateboarding so that means COWABUNGA dudes and dudettes.

Oh and football is back more sport my wife will love.
