Hot chicks playing instruments - My Music

I saw Robbie Williams video earlier for his new single ‘Party Like A Russian’ and you could hardly miss his backing group and in the words of lead Alien Jumpsuit Chick from the film Dude, Where's My Car? – Hot chicks.

Yes, hot chicks holding instruments they can’t play but in this world of chicks who can’t play the daddy of them all is still Robert Palmer - Addicted To Love what a backing group or a new favourite of mine Duran Duran - Girl Panic! Super models pretending to play instruments that’s hot.
It got me thinking of girl bands who could play, hot chicks with instruments they can play and some of the best I can remember you need to turn back the pages to the eighties with a plus … big hair. Someone like another big favourite of mind Bananarama won’t be featuring in this list they will have their day another time.

I remember The Bangles in the 1980s one of the biggest girl bands around and could play instruments but like most girl bands that was not sexy enough for music executives who wanted sex in the videos because it sells. The band formed in Los Angeles in 1981, scoring several hits before they broke up with the working relationship within the band braking down.

Their biggest hit in the single market was the 1989 release "Eternal Flame" which was number one in most charts worldwide. Susanna Hoffs was the lead vocalist, which was one of the big issues within the band as the recording company favoured her songs she was singing over other members of the band.

Another American band charting in the 1980s were The Go-Go's who made history as the first and only all-female band that both wrote their own songs and played their own instruments to top the Billboard album charts.

Unlike the Bangles they found single chart success hard to achieve but all accounts they were a great live band selling more than 7 million albums. My favourite Go-Go’s track was "Our Lips Are Sealed written by the Go-Go's guitarist Jane Wiedlin and Terry Hall of The Specials fame who also release the song with Fun Boy Three.

Personality conflicts, drug addiction problems with some members topped off with some creative differences finally broke the band and they decided to disband. Belinda Carlisle was the front for the band and with Jane Wiedlin, the only original band members.
