Its been a while since I added a tune to my blog Jukebox and here is number 13, Janet Kay. Lovers Rock at its finest and about the most beautiful Lovers record ever made (that I’ve heard anyway) and the biggest hit the genre produced, getting to No. 2 in the charts.
It is a style of reggae music noted for its romantic sound and content. The roots of lover’s rock lies in rocksteady it became a classic end of the dance smoochy number back in the day. The sound was homemade coming out of London and soon was popular countrywide. I remember getting my first listen of the tune on the radio, remembering it got a lot of airtime and was soon on the must watch music show Top of the Pops.
The tune was a slow burner but after her first appearance of TOTPs, her single began to climb the charts that was how powerful the show was to artists and bands. I was hook as this fall right into my music tastes with reggae, rocksteady, ska, and Two Tone. That opening to the song was electric and add her voice you were listen to a piece of heaven. The beat of the music was captivating and her voice was sublime. I just deify on the feel the beat and feel the need to dance.
