Defeat against Burnley last week was hard both teams needed the points but these games are must win for teams like us. I hate fan saying we should have won! Stats mean nothing if you don’t put the ball in the back of the net. Something our present forwards seem to have lost the ability of doing.
Today’s game see the Welshman off to London, and Wembley to face Tottenham a bit depressing when you are looking for a first league win after seven games. Will it be eight games without a win because the bookies, pundits and just about everyone else are predicting a defeat for Cardiff. Christ what would I give to prove them all wrong.
Cardiff boss Neil Warnock talking about the possibility of the sack said don’t every manager fear the call saying, “sorry it’s not working, you’re sacked”. Warnock who took charge at the Cardiff City Stadium two years ago, pondered if promotion was too soon? Could another season in the Championship prepared us better for the Premier League? I think that maybe we were promoted sooner than anyone expected including about every Cardiff fan but you are dealt your cards by the footballing gods and have to except them but time will tell on this season.
If Warnock is still in the job in January (no football gods here that will be down to Vincent Tan, Mr Owner) he will definitely be dipping his toes into the transfer window. This week he has been talking about three new faces with a quality striker a top target that could change if our front line start firing on all cylinders, unlike I would think.
On the pitch, not much has changed for Cardiff midfielder Aron Gunnarsson remains sidelined with a knee problem but could be fit to face Fulham after the international break. Another international break and I just wish there would ride off into the distance I hate them I have just never been a big fan of international football.
After the international break Cardiff, have a home game against one of the big summer transfer spenders, Fulham who spent over £100million followed by a trip to Liverpool at the end of the month.
On the plus side for Warnock Junior Hoilett is available, having missed last weekend's defeat against Burnley with a virus.
As for Tottenham, they have a number of injuries several key players who missed the Champions League midweek 4-2 defeat by Barcelona and will be without Jan Vertonghen, Mousa Dembele, Dele Alli, Christian Eriksen, and Serge Aurier for Cardiff’s visit to Wembley.
Erik Lamela was forced off with cramp against Barcelona so should be fit to start, while Eric Dier is likely to come into the XI having been on the bench in midweek.
Elsewhere, Kyle Walker-Peters, Juan Foyth, Moussa Sissoko, and Georges-Kevin Nkoudou could also see action depending on the fitness of other first-team regulars.
The last time we faced each our in the league was in fact the last time we were in the Premier League and they did the double over us. The last time we beat them at home 1954/55 before I was born.
