Just a quick short post it was the draw for the FA Cup and the Welsh Cup and the never ending journey continues to May and the Finals.
I am jockey-in Slough Town in the draw for the FA Cup live on BBC2 with 80 teams in the draw and the winners will pocket £36,000 in prize money more than the winners of the Welsh Cup receive I believe has I can’t find any information.
Vanarama National League Sutton United have the pleasure of a visit from Slough Town and I guess both wish to be playing the likes of Sunderland or Portsmouth. Slough will be going into the game as underdogs if only on league position anyway, but over 90 minutes of a cup game does it count.
There were two Welsh teams in the draw. Wrexham have to overcome Harrogate Town in a replay for the right to face Weston Super Mare, just over the Bristol Channel from Cardiff. Newport were in the draw and gave me the laugh of the night when they drew a trip to the Met Police in the old days would have a team full of plod, but that is no longer the case.
In the Welsh Cup, my team Monmouth Town have a home game against Ynysddu Welfare. The draw was held via Facebook with the game still being regionalised north, and south on cost grounds. The visitors in this Second Round fixture play in the Gwent County League, fifth tier of the Welsh pyramid system. They went into the last round as underdogs beating the struggling Welsh Division 1 team Taff’s Wells FC.
Monmouth play in the Welsh League 2, are in the top 10 of the league, and will be favourites to win the game and make the Third round. In the Third round, the Welsh Premier League teams enter the competition and the last chance for a Cardiff based team to progress to the Final when Cardiff Met are in the hat.
