Must see TV - Week beginning Sat 27 October 2018


New TV is scarce this upcoming week but looking forward your viewing box will look better in the next few weeks. Something to look out for next week, a Sci-fi drama about the first manned mission to Mars, on topic with Mars being the next space race! Who will be first to put their flag on the planet. Christmas TV schedule news is beginning to leak out not long to go to December 1st when this blog turns Christmassy.

Sunday – BBC1 – The Little Drummer Girl 9pm (New Series)

The first episode is reported at times achingly languid, but that’s no bad thing in a slow-burning story of loyalty, conflict, and terrorism. Will the BBC have another drama hit on their hands?

Spy drama set in the 1970s, following the aftermath of a bombing in East Germany. An Israeli intelligence operative investigates, and discovers a connection to a series of assassination attempts against prominent Jewish figures around the world. In London, a struggling actress accepts the offer of a holiday in Greece, leading her to a whirlwind romance that draws her into the agent's operation.

Tuesday – Sky One – The Reluctant Landlord 9pm (New Series)

Semi-autobiographical comedy written by starring Romesh Ranganathan about a man forced by his mum into taking over the running of the family pub after his dad dies. Romesh clashes with pub bully Dirty Harry, while the landlord's wife Natasha draws his best mate Lemon into her new juicing diet, and barmaid Julie tries to add cocktails to the pub menu.

Sian Gibson is great as Romesh’s social media-obsessed, food-faddy wife, but the main draws are Romesh’s sardonic wit and wisdom – whether arguing with his son about Spider-Man’s superpowers or declaring “Eating badly is a long, enjoyable suicide”.

Tuesday – Fox – People of Earth 10:30pm (New Series)

Reporter Ozzie Graham travels to Beacon, New York to write a story on StarCrossed, joining an alien abduction support group. Abductions are considered `experiences', and each member has had an experience.

Wednesday – Flim4 – Crow’s Blood 10:55pm (New Series)

A former soldier returns to the US after serving in the Middle East, and decides to put his fighting skills to use as a vigilante. As he battles his way through the underworld, murdering criminals and corrupt officials who protect them from the law, a former comrade in arms is given the task of bringing him to justice. Action thriller, starring Steven Seagal and Craig Sheffer.

Thursday – Channel4 – The First 9pm (New Series)

Sci-fi drama about the first manned mission to Mars, orchestrated by a visionary aerospace tycoon. Five astronauts are selected for the operation, which has the ultimate goal of establishing a permanent human settlement on the red planet. Vista CEO Laz Ingram and the Providence crew count down for the mission, while a former mission commander watches the launch of their spacecraft from home. Following a disastrous setback for the project, he receives an unexpected visitor and an intriguing opportunity - the chance to join the crew.

Thursday – Discovery Channel – Outback Truckers 9pm (New Series)

Truck drivers with a difference they travel the dusty roads of Australia and are the lifeline to those living in the remote outback delivering essentials. The vastness of the country makes the drivers the backbone of the Australian transport system. Husband and wife Nick and Jo risk one last supply to a remote settlement as the wet season looms. Meanwhile, Craig and his son deliver hay to drought-hit stations.

Friday – Netflix – House of Cards (New Series)

Kevin Spacey’s removal from the show following sexual harassment allegations might have shrouded House Of Cards’ final season but it was not cancelled we have a new President. Frank out of the picture, Claire Underwood steps fully into her own as the first woman president, but faces formidable threats to her legacy.
