The Walking Dead back on our Screens

The Walking Dead is back for season 9 and only the pending broadcasting of the final season of Game of Thrones next year excites me more. We start 18 months in the future, the saviours have been beaten and subdued, everything feels fresh and new already, and some new faces enter the show.

Here is your recap of “A New Beginning” with a few spoilers
There is plenty of construction going on in Alexandria has they rebuild. There are crops, a lake, solar panels, and windmills. Rick is still loved up with Michonne and Judith as grown and everything looks rosy but at the Sanctuary. Used to being top dogs until Rick and the others put them down there crops have failed and are living off food parcels from Hilltop. This is coursing tensions.

Daryl is the leader at the Sanctuary but not enjoying the experience so Carol offers to take over for a while and oh yes she is in a relationship with Ezekiel. Rick leads an expedition to Washington DC the former capital of the USA to ransack the National Museum (Smithsonian) for useful stuff, like a plough, an old wagon, and seeds. Washington from the little we see is empty for the living and we only see a small number of walkers.

During the journey, back from the Smithsonian the group come across a washed out bridge. While they figured out a plan to get everyone back to their communities walkers appeared. A walker killed Ken, the son of blacksmith Earl from The Hilltop. His parents, Tammy Rose and Earl, played by newcomers to The Walking Dead, did not take that too well. Tammy Rose in particular lit Maggie up holding her responsible.

Gregory former leader at Hilltop gets Earl drunk and sets Maggie up by telling her that someone had vandalized Glenn’s grave. When she went to check, with little Hershel in a stroller, Earl attacked her. But she managed to fight off Earl with some help. She then confronts Gregory who attacks her but Maggie is a fighter Gregory a drunk so she easily over powered him. Are we seeing a darker side of Maggie seeing what happen to Gregory?

No sign of Negan in this episode but it’s been leaked he is about somewhere locked away.

While the entire point of ‘The Walking Dead’ has been that any character could go at any time, the entire foundation was built around Rick Grimes. So it is tough to understand how he will exit ‘The Walking Dead’ along with Lauren Cohan (who plays Maggie Rhee) and this series will carry on without skipping a beat.

Rick and Maggie leaving ‘The Walking Dead’ in whatever manner the writers decide — it’s still unknown if they’ll die or just find another way to leave — truly feels like finality for this show.

It was a solid start looks like tensions will play apart between the groups there are rumours of a possible new enemy and what about that helicopter we saw towards the end of series eight.
