Welsh Cup Round I Missed

Due to my illness last week and the fact the Welsh FA were piss poor with advertising the fact it was Welsh Cup weekend I missed it and only found out when the draw for the next round flashed up on my Facebook yesterday.

They (Welsh FA) need to get more active on social media and sell the Cup, and Leagues. Also what about football tourism better known as ground hopping looking beyond the Welsh Premier League. So it was a trip to Monmouth Town for my team (in this round).

So my team in this 2nd qualifying round of the JD Welsh Cup were Wattsville a small village eight or so miles north west of Newport and play in the Gwent County Division. Currently they are lower mid-table in the league. They travelled to Monmouth Town of the Welsh League Division 2 who were obvious favourites to win.

Form went in the way of league positioning with Monmouth winning 5-2 so it meant a new team to follow in the next round drawn as I said yesterday. So whom did my new team draw out of the glass bowl? Undy Athletic Welsh League Division 1 and Monmouth will have to travel to their ground, The Causeway. The teams are more evenly matches in the next round.

Cardiff watch. I like to know how Cardiff based teams fair in the cup where many if not all of them fall by the way side before the third round. This weekend four teams took to the field…

Cardiff Draconian were at home but beaten by Sully Sports 4-3 after extra time. Bridgend St also failed to reach the first round losing on penalty’s 5-3

On the other hand, Caerau Ely FC beat Trethomas Bluebirds at home, and were in the glass bowl yesterday, and have a trip to Briton Ferry. Another Cardiff team STM Sports not only won but also run up a double figure score line beating Glynneath Town 12-0 a handsome score you do not see much of these days. Their reward for such a score line Haverfordwest County and real top-notch fixture for a team looking to climb to the highest levels of Welsh football.

Therefore, that is two teams from Cardiff left in the Cup with Cardiff Med to join the competition at the third round.
